Many women have found that running a home-based business not only can be financially rewarding, but can also leave them more time free to spend with their family. The range of home-based businesses is vast, and women are coming up with new ideas all the time. From running a conventional business out of a home office, to developing a business around a specific talent or skill, home-based ideas are out there for almost anyone.
Ideas Based on Hobby
Many women have hobbies or skills that can be turned into a business. Handicrafts, such as knitting, crochet and jewelry making, can all be turned into businesses. Sell your creations in local stores or on online sites, such as etsy.com, which offer a marketplace for crafts. Hobbies, such as scrapbooking, can also be turned into a business. A lot of people would like to have all of their photos and keepsakes organized in a stylish way, but do not have the time or creativity. Skills that you may take for granted, such as baking or sewing, can also be turned into a business. Start up a cupcake or meal delivery service, a clothing alteration service or a custom-made clothing business.
Become “Mompreneur”
Increasing numbers of women with children are choosing to develop and market their own ideas and products, and run their own business from home. These businesses often start with an idea for a product or service that is in demand in their areas, such as bilingual classes for kids, lawn care, fitness classes or fashionable bags for adults and kids. Many women start businesses in fields that they worked in previously. Running a business from home allows you to be on hand when your family needs you, and allows you to grow your business as your family grows up.
Online Ideas
A growing number of jobs allow you to work entirely online. You can start up a blog or an Internet site offering expertise on a particular subject and sell advertising on the site. You can work as a freelance writer, using sites like elance.com to find contracts. You could also work for agencies that provide technical writers, resumes and college essays. These jobs usually involve working for a service that will let you chose your assignments based on your knowledge and experience. Another idea is to conduct online research – compiling resource lists or building a directory of sites on a a particular subject or industry.
